The Sherwood Point Lighthouse was established in 1883 on the west side of the north entrance to Sturgeon Bay. It was outfitted with a fourth-order Fresnel lens, and it 1937 became the only lighthouse in the county to be equipped with a radio broadcasting station. Sherwood Point Lighthouse was the last manned lighthouse on the Great Lakes but was finally automated in 1983.
The house and grounds are still maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard, but the grounds are closed to public access. The lighthouse can be viewed from the road, and the facility is open to the public once per year during the Lighthouse Walk the second weekend of June.
