The Milwaukee Art Museum houses a collection of over 30,000 pieces, with emphasis on 19th- and 20th-century American and European art, contemporary art and American decorative arts. The 341,000-square-foot facility includes the War Memorial Center, the Kahler Building and the Quadracci Pavilion. The Museum is right on the shores of Lake Michigan, and when weather conditions permit, the “wings” on the outside of the building open and close. They typically open when the Museum opens for the day, close and open at noon, and close when the Museum closes for the day.
