Newport State Park in Ellison Bay has over 2,300 acres of forest, as well as eleven miles of Lake Michigan shoreline and 30 miles of hiking trails. Hiking trails range from one mile to seven miles. The Park is one of only 18 in the United States designated as a Dark Sky Park, making it a great destination for stargazing.

During the winter, there are over 26 miles of cross-country skiing trails open, including 12 miles of groomed trails for classical skiing and two miles for skate skiing. There are around five miles of snowshoeing trails. Newport State Park has 17 backpack campsites. There is a small sand beach. A vehicle admission sticker is required for entry.
