Jacobsens Museum was purpose-built by hand by Island resident Jens Jacobsen in 1931. He first arrived on Washington Island from Denmark at 14 in 1881 and lived the rest of his life here dying in 1952 when he was 85. The museum housed his collections of local rocks, fossils and other artifacts as well as his self crafted boat models and intricate wooden scrollwork. The museum is open from June through Columbus Day weekend – check website for days and hours.
