Enjoy miles of clean, sandy beaches perfect for sunbathers, swimmers, wind surfers, kayakers, and jet skiers. Beyond the breakers, numerous shipwrecks attract scuba divers from around the world. Sail in off the lake, cruise past the Coast Guard station, and you have arrived.
This charming town once had the largest commercial fishing fleet on Lake Michigan. Rogers Street Fishing Village and Great Lakes Coast Guard Museum brings this deep maritime history to life through exhibits that include an 1886 historic lighthouse, shipwreck displays and artifacts, and of course, commercial fishing exhibits.
The mother of invention blessed Two Rivers with a rich entrepreneurial spirit. In 1880, Edward Hamilton started by making wood type on his mothers back porch. Eventually, The Hamilton Manufacturing Company was the largest wood type producer in the country. In addition to wood type, the company has manufactured medical office furniture, light tables, the first gas powered clothes dryer, and more. The Hamilton Wood Type Museum celebrates this spirit with the largest wood type collection in the country as well as the machines used to fabricate it.
Ed Berner invented the Ice Cream Sundae here in 1881, and you can still get an ice cream sundae at Berners’ Ice Cream Parlor in the historic Washington House at 17th and Jefferson Streets. The parlor features pictures and relics of the original Berners’ store, along with an old picture of Ed Berner himself. We have big history in this little town
