Beautiful Bayfield is the gateway to the Apostle Islands and serves as a hub for visitors who want to explore Lake Superior and Wisconsin’s north coast. This historic and picturesque town offers a wide variety of lodging, dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

It is the host to multiple festivals over the course of the year, including the Festival of Arts and Gallery Tour held annually the third weekend of July. In addition, October’s Apple Festival, and the Apostle Islands Sled Race in February, it is a favorite year-round destination. Bayfield is also the Berry Capital of Wisconsin and home to numerous orchards, fruit farms and wineries.

The headquarters and visitor center for the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, Wisconsin’s northernmost landscape, is located right in Bayfield. There are 22 Apostle Islands in all, 21 of which are part of the National Lakeshore.

Madeline Island, the largest of the Apostles and the only one with a year-round population, is just a ferry boat ride away. Charter a sailboat to explore the hidden beaches and coves of the National Lakeshore, or embark on a guided cruise to view the historic lighthouses that are scattered throughout.
